Are you protected against the influenza virus?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months and older receive an influenza vaccination each year. Influenza, or the Flu, is a viral infection that affects millions of Americans each year. The CDC also estimates that 250,000 Americans are hospitalized each year due to the flu, and another 36,000 people die each year as a result of complications.  An annual flu shot will help combat the three influenza strands that appear during flu season.

Patients don’t need to fear the side effects of the influenza vaccination, as serious side effects are incredibly rare.  Some of the more common side effects are all innocuous, as they may include soreness around the area of the shot or minor cold symptoms.  In general, the benefits of receiving a flu shot significantly outweighs the potential side effects resulting from the shot.  Get yourself and your family vaccinated this year by visiting us at American Family Care where we’d be happy to administer a flu shot, with no appointment or referral necessary.
